Despite all that, the weather wasn’t looking great at all: Already in the morning it was snowing – and it kept on snowing for the rest of the day. However, for the participants of the Penken Battle no reason to stay away from the contest. Even though there was no final run due to heavy snowfall, the shreadheads made for an awesome slopestyle contest at a high level and a crackin’ freestyle party.
At the 3rd stop of the QParks Tour the snowboarders fought a super-fine battle! Russian rider Anton Mamaev (RUS) convinced the judges with his BS Double Cork 1080 and thus not only took the first place in the category Snowboard Men, but also won the Best Trick Award. This way he got himself 250€ as well as stylish and useful shred-goodies. He was followed by Gabe Adams (GBR) and the Austrian rider Moritz Kaufmann (AUT). In the category Snowboard Ladies two girls from Great Britain made it onto the winner’s podium: Luca Mai Lane Hopkins (GBR) took the first place, Emma Lantos (AUT) the second and Amber Fennell (GBR) the third. In the category Groms, Gabe Adams (GBR) eventually took the first place, followed by Ethan Smith (GBR) on the second and Benni Fridbjornsso (ISL) on the third place.
At the Penken Battle there was more to celebrate than just the contest itself, because there were two birthday children! First one was the Penken Park Mayrhofen itself, which is celebrating “20 years of Penken Park” this season. The second jubilee is QParks, celebrating “15 Years for Freestyle” and thus 15 years of Quality Snowparks. To mark the occasion, a big fat chocolate cake was served to all participants.
